CARTS On the Move… 2010 E. 6th St Headquarters Property For Sale

Apr 07, 2016

CARTS on the Move.

The Capital Area Rural Transportation System announced plans today to consolidate its Austin Operating and Headquarters Facilities to its new campus located at 5300 Tucker Hill Lane, Cedar Creek, Texas. The CARTS Tucker Hill Lane tract has been master planned to incorporate all of its central facility operations, including vehicle maintenance, its agency headquarters and its operating and communications center. A park-n-ride facility and intermodal station will also be incorporated at the campus, located on the Bastrop/Travis County line on SH71.

In preparation, it has listed its Headquarters facility,  located at 2010 E 6th St,  for sale, initiating a sealed bid process beginning on April 8, 2016 for the disposition of its Austin property. CARTS plans to lease back the facility while it constructs its new headquarters, now under design, with construction slated to begin in the fall.

“It is no secret that the neighborhood has changed since we first opened this facility in 1993,” David Marsh, the General Manager of CARTS said, “and our bus terminal operations are no longer compatible to the busy urban environment that has grown around us. We began making plans several years ago to consolidate our various central functions into one campus and we are now poised to begin that transition.”

CARTS is working with Capital Metro and TxDOT on the location of  a bus plaza to integrate its regional routes that hub at its E 6th St. terminal to another location.

In February, the Texas Transportation Commission approved a $9.8M allocation to CARTS, as part of a U.S. DOT TIGER grant award made to TxDOT, that will finance the construction of the phased development CARTS will begin later this year.
